Our team recently observed the appearance of a new “Loft It” button within Google Calendar (GCal) events, seemingly replacing the standard “Save” button. When users update a Google Calendar event and select the “Loft It” button, both a new GCal and Salesforce event are created, which also triggers an additional meeting notification for external participants.

Key Concerns

  • Duplicate Notifications and Records: When the "Loft It" button is used, external recipients receive another notification for the meeting, which can lead to confusion. Additionally, multiple entries in GCal and Salesforce may appear as duplicate records, potentially cluttering calendars and systems.
  • Documentation Gap: There’s currently no official Salesloft documentation that outlines the function and expected behavior of this feature.

Unanswered Questions

We're looking for clarification on the following:

  • Expected Functionality vs. Bug: Is this behavior intentional, or is it a bug?
  • Record Management: Why aren’t updates to the original event reflected without using the “Loft It” button?
  • System Updates: Is there a reason why updates to GCal events can’t be saved directly without "lofting"?
Duplicate Entries: What’s the reason for creating additional entries in both GCal and Salesforce?

Hello Brian,

Google pushed a UI change to Google Calendar on Wednesday that has unfortunately caused a number of issues with our extension.   What you experienced regarding the Loft in button, Duplicate Notification and Records was addressed with our most recent version 1.3.10.  Additional issues related to Zoom and Teams links disappearing were fixed in version 1.3.11 (which is still pending approval with Google and is not live at the time of this message)

I would recommend updating the extension to at least version 1.3.10 to fix the duplication and meeting type issues and then apply 1.3.11 as soon as it becomes available from the Chrome Store.

Other Questions

  • Documentation Gap:  You are completely correct about the documentation gap and that is something I will bring back to the team to have updated and refreshed to reflect the intended experience.
  • Release Notes: They have been updated to refer to the Google Calendar bugs we are addressing.  Just to confirm, there was not any planned changes to the way this functionality worked, this is more of an example of Google making a change that we were not informed of in advance.
  • Record Management/System Updates/ Duplicate Entries: The loft it button usually is triggered once to signify that you want to log this record.  After the record has been lofted the “save” functionality will continue to update it as you make edits and updates.  This is an example of where the Google Calendar UI changes broke our buttons and continually provided the “loft it” button instead of save which contributed to the duplicate records.

let me know if I missed anything or if I can help with any other questions.  Thanks!

Hi there,
This isn’t working for my team they are all on 1.3.10 and still sending multiple invites if they add a colleague to the invite already created.

Hello @Vicky and @Brian

I want to correct my above statement as we’ve learned more today.  Our overall recommendation is that version 1.3.11 should fix the issues caused by the Google Calendar UI push for users on the NEW and OLD calendar UI.

We are still waiting for this version to be approved by Google, but the new version banner should notify your users and help them upgrade as soon as it is available.

My previous statement about version 1.3.10 fixing the duplication issues may only have applied to users on the NEW Calendar UI and not the OLD.

@KurtLoescher thank you for the update and for answering the questions.

@Vicky in the Salesloft Chrome extension settings, you can disable the Loft feature. I advised my coworkers to adjust this setting to prevent sending duplicate notifications to external customers. This serves as a workaround until the issue is resolved.
