Hi Champions!

I have a customer expanding into the EU and being mindful of GDPR laws, we are exploring the use of a custom email preference center link in place of Salesloft opt-out links. Anyone taking this approach?

What works well? What doesn’t? Are you using a Marketing Automation platform for EPC links?

@Salesloft_Rob we started in the EU and expanded to the US, so have been following GDPR for outbound since starting.

Typically, preference centers are used for subscribers, whereas opt-out links are more common best practice used for anyone who you’ve reached on an outbound basis. (e.g mailchimp uses a preference center). So this could make some sense for existing customers, but, I wouldn’t use it for outbound.

I’d try to keep in native to the emailing platform on that comms channel (Salesloft in this case) for outbound, rather than re-directing somewhere else for two reasons:

1. The most important part is following the unsubscribe request. Using a third party or homegrown center, just, increases the margin for error, where an opt-out might not be followed.

2. In an outbound use-case a whole center with preferences, could be perceived as making it harder to opt-out. Which just increases the likelihood of a spam report, the reason this isn’t true for subscribers, is that they’ve gone to the effort to opt-in.

I’m curious if they’re concerned about the actual number of opt-outs or the deliverability impact of the link being in the footer?

Thanks @RuariBaker and appreciate your insight here!

The challenge I’m having is this... GDPR states that an opt-in is needed for marketing communication and I’m seeing more sellers send promotional emails in their outbound motion. Based on this, my customer would use forms to opt prospects into their communication channels (SMS, Email, and Phone). They have language on their forms today stating a Person is opting into all communication channels.

Today, Salesloft functionality is a global opt out and when clicked, the person will no longer be able to receive SMS or calls. With this in mind, we are exploring the viability of a preference center to respect opt-outs, while still following GDPR guidelines.

Thanks @Salesloft_Rob and @RuariBaker

I think the approach we are going to go is with a new preference center so the person can update their consent/communication preferences. We also have found out that in the UK specifically if there is legitimate interest we can outbound, but will have to have these things in place as well.

I appreciate the info!
