Hey Salesloft Champions,
Sam Gorfti here again, a Senior Channel Health Engineer at Salesloft. In my last post, we broke down the pillars of email deliverability. Today, I want to apply that same framework to an equally important channel: the dialer.
We’ve seen your questions about maximizing connect rates, navigating carrier networks, and avoiding the dreaded "Spam Likely" label. Just like with email, your phone number has a reputation that you build over time. Every call you make either strengthens or weakens it.
Let's break down how you can build a stellar calling reputation and ensure your calls get answered.
Pillar 1: Build Trust with Carriers
Before you can focus on call strategy, you need to establish your identity with the phone carriers (like AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile). Their primary goal is to block fraudulent robocalls. Your goal is to prove you're a legitimate business making wanted calls.
- Register with Salesloft's Trust Hub: This is your single most important step. Trust Hub is our self-service portal that registers and verifies your business identity directly with carriers. It’s the foundation for everything else.
- What Trust Hub Does For You:
- STIR/SHAKEN: This is the digital handshake that authenticates your call, proving you are authorized to use your number. It’s a powerful signal to carriers that your call is legitimate.
- CNAM (Caller ID): Helps you set a 15-character name that appears on your prospect's phone (e.g., "Acme Sales Team"). A recognizable name drastically improves answer rates. Beyond the prospect's experience, carriers also see a registered CNAM as a mark of legitimacy. This strengthens your number's reputation and provides an added layer of defense against spam flags.
- Voice Integrity: We proactively share your business information and expected call patterns with carriers. This helps prevent your legitimate activity from being mistakenly flagged as spam.
✅ Action Item: Is your business fully registered in Salesloft's Trust Hub? Verify your status in your settings and work with our support team to ensure your numbers are properly configured with CNAM and Voice Integrity.
Pillar 2: Smart Dialing Habits
How you dial is just as important as who you are. Carriers analyze calling patterns to spot robotic behavior. Adopting human-like rhythms is key to maintaining a healthy reputation.
- Dial Like a Human, Not a Robot: Avoid rapid-fire dialing. Aim for a consistent rhythm of one call per minute or longer. Bursts of calls in a short period look suspicious to carriers.
- Respect the "No Answer": Avoid calling the same person repeatedly in a short time frame if they don't answer. This is a huge red flag that the traffic is unwanted and a quick way to get your number flagged.
- Avoid Short Duration Calls: Calls under 6 seconds are often flagged by carriers. Always let the phone ring through to voicemail and use a Voicedrop before hanging up.
- Stick With Your Numbers: Constantly swapping phone numbers ("churning") is a classic spammer tactic. Hold onto your numbers to build a positive call history and reputation with them over time.
✅ Action Item: Review your team's calling cadence. Are you pacing calls, letting them ring through, and focusing on quality lists to maximize answer rates?
Pillar 3: Protecting Your Reputation
Even with a perfect setup, phone numbers can sometimes get mislabeled. Proactive management is key.
- Trust the Process: Our Voice Integrity program, as part of Trust Hub, is your primary line of defense. We proactively submit your business profile and numbers to the major spam analytics vendors on your behalf, often through portals like the Free Call Registry. For the vast majority of US-based calling, this is the most effective way to protect your reputation.
- When to Intervene Directly: While our automated process covers most cases, there can be specific situations where direct registration is helpful. The most common scenario is with international calling. If you notice a number used for international calls is being persistently flagged, you can register it directly with a vendor like Hiya, which has a strong global footprint.
✅ Action Item: Trust that Salesloft's Voice Integrity is handling your primary reputation management. If you are experiencing persistent issues, especially on international numbers, work with our Support team or consider registering the specific number directly with an international vendor like Hiya.
Maximizing your call deliverability is a combination of technical verification, smart calling habits, and proactive reputation management. By focusing on these three pillars, you can build trust with carriers, avoid spam flags, and spend more time in meaningful conversations.
